The Cultural Skepticism Factor
A more sociological explanation holds that paranormal dead zones aren't suppressing phenomena — they're suppressing reporting.
Cultural attitudes toward the supernatural vary enormously across the United States. Communities with strong rationalist traditions, or with religious frameworks that categorically reject paranormal interpretations of experience, may generate the same frequency of strange events as anywhere else — but those events never make it into any database because the people experiencing them have no framework for reporting them and no community that would take the report seriously.
